His sword-making skills have evolved into a modern day master of swords, and he is the only one of their kind in Tokyo. Their lives were unique in that they lived in the same time period, but they were masters of such a large scale that tales about their lives established a legendary aura.Ī well-known swordsmith, Yoshihara Yoshindo, is regarded as the most widely respected in Tokyo and across the country. The folklore of blacksmithing has two important figures: Masamune and Muramasa. He is credited with inventing the process of differential hardening, which was a major advance in sword making. Masamune is widely considered to be the greatest swordsmith in Japanese history, and his swords are prized for their exceptional quality. His father, Sadamune, was also a swordsmith, and it is believed that Masamune learned his trade from him. Masamune was born in 1264 in the village of Komachi, located in the province of Shimousa. However, one name that stands out above the rest is that of Masamune Okazaki.
