Papa stache dirty shirley mini review8/19/2023 ![]() ![]() ![]() I can't wait until I get the chance to gig with it next month! I'll let you guys know how it goes with it unmic'd in a club. Overall, I would highly recommend this amp. I imagine that you could play anything from twangy cleans to high gain metal. The underlying tone is fantastic, though, so I'm wondering if it's just the cabinet that I'm not bonding with. This amp sounds huge! It's extremely versatile. 1 Have any of you owners of the Dirty Shirley mini tried the head with the larger Dirty Shirley cabinet I have the head and the mini cabinet, but it sounds a little boxy and a little boomy so far. Definitely don't worry about the el84 tubes creating a thinner sound. The main thing I've noticed about this amp as far as driving it with the gain or volume is that the only way to get that fat tone is to drive the power section (unsurprisingly). The highest gain position sounds thinner and brighter to me. ![]() It is a little clearer sounding in my opinion. The middle position is kind of a more standard Marshall tone. Huntington Park, CA (April 10, 2017) - Dave Friedman’s Dirty Shirley Mini is a 20-watt, ultra-compact, 1x10 version of the popular full-sized Dirty Shirley which was designed for guitarists that want a vintage tone inspired by British tube amps from the 60s and 70s but in a compact size and weight. This has become my favorite position, and I love how it sounds for slide in particular. The lowest position on the gain switch is very fat and dynamic sounding. I started with the eq at 5, but had to increase the bass and mids. I started with the volume at around 2 in my bedroom, and it was loud. I used it with a 2016 50s Tribute LP with an SD Pearly Gates set. I am running this head through the full size Dirty Shirley open back cab with a Celestion creamback. Upon unboxing, I noticed that the amp is built like a tank. ![]()
